Microsoft Prepping For Windows Phone Phablets!

The technology market is aware that Nokia phablets will be launched very soon. Microsoft is now setting the ground for these larger Windows Phone devices as the software giant announced the Windows Phone Update 3. This is basically a revision and updating process of the company’s mobile operating system that supports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, the 1920 by 1080 resolution screens and 5 to 6 inch screens. The Windows Phone product manager of Microsoft, Greg Sullivan refused to make any comment regarding the specific hardware of the upcoming devices.

However, it is quite obvious to patrons of the tech market that this revision is basically setting up for the upcoming announcement that will be made by Nokia regarding its 1520 Windows Phone phablet announcement that will be made on October 22nd in Abu Dhabi. The 1520 has been extensively leaked and features a Snapdragon 800 processor and a 6 inch 1080p screen. Sullivan said that the update would enable a new category of hardware for the company, which is the phablet. He also added that most of the changes that were made in Update 3 would be for the adaption of Windows Phone interface to the new screen size.

This means that there would be more tiles on the start screen and screens like the Music and People hubs would also offer a third column of information. The new start screen will be found in 5 inch devices and new email, messaging, People Hub, music and other applications layouts will come to the 6 inch screen as dictated by Sullivan. He said that people will notice that the UI has not just been stretched, but has been modified. Every Windows Phone 8 device will be able to take advantage of the update and there are some features, which have been specifically designed for small screen devices.

Camera-centric phones such as the Nokia Lumia 1020 have been given a ‘lens’ app, which will work as a default camera above the lock screen. Likewise, when the phone connects to a car with Bluetooth, the driving mode of the device will mute voice calls and will send out automatic text messages. Windows Phone can also be easily used by someone with an impaired vision with the new screen reader. Settings also include a rotation lock, effective memory management and the option of closing apps from the multitasking screen. A developer preview program has also been inaugurated by Microsoft.

With this program, software developers will have access to the new OS before mobile carriers actually clear them. Some major new apps may also be announced by Microsoft on October 22nd as per Sullivan. The launch of the six inch devices for the Windows Phone OS puts it on a direct collision course with Windows because 8 inch Windows tablet will be launched in the market. There have been rumors flying around according to which Terry Myerson, the Microsoft OS boss wants to merge Windows and Windows Phone formally and eliminate the Windows RT, which has been lackluster, in this process.
